Printer & scanner help (home & small business)
New printer or scanner setup (done properly)
We unbox, connect to Wi-Fi or USB, install the right software, add the printer to all your devices (Windows, Mac, phones/tablets) and do a test print/scan so you know it’s working.
GC Tech tip: Place the printer where it gets a solid Wi-Fi signal (not in a cupboard), and write the Wi-Fi name/password on a note inside the printer tray lid.
“Printer is offline” or “can’t find the printer”
This is the most common headache. We reconnect your printer to the same Wi-Fi name your computer uses, remove and re-add the printer, and update the driver if needed.
GC Tech tip (Windows): Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → select your printer → Remove, then Add device.
GC Tech tip (Mac): System Settings → Printers & Scanners → minus (–) to remove → plus (+) to add; choose AirPrint if available.
Wi-Fi & network printing issues
Dropouts, prints stuck in queue, or one laptop prints while another can’t? We fix Wi-Fi naming mix-ups (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz), clear stalled print queues, and make sure each device talks to the correct printer.
GC Tech tip: Restart order matters. Turn your printer off/on, then restart the computer. If the queue is stuck, cancel all jobs before trying again.
Scanning to computer, phone or cloud
We set up scan-to-PDF on Windows/Mac, get your vendor app working (HP Smart, Epson iPrint, Brother Utilities, Canon IJ), and show you how to scan to email, OneDrive, Google Drive or iCloud.
GC Tech tip: If scanning fails after an update, reinstall the manufacturer app and allow any “Files/Photos” permissions it asks for.
Print quality fixes (faint, streaky, smudged)
We run cleaning/calibration, check paper type settings, and clean rollers so your pages feed straight.
GC Tech tip (inkjet): Run Nozzle Check/Clean Printhead from the printer’s maintenance menu, then print a plain text page to test.
GC Tech tip (laser): If pages are grey or streaky, gently remove the toner and shake side-to-side, then reinsert. If it still streaks, the drum/toner may need replacing.
