Laptop & desktop help (Windows & Mac)
New PC/Mac setup
We unbox, update, install your apps, connect email/printers and move your files so the new machine is ready to use. We’ll also set sensible defaults and a simple backup from day one.
GC Tech tip: Keep your old computer handy for a few days in case you remember a file or setting you want copied over.
Startup problems, crashes & strange errors
Blue screens, spinning beachballs or endless “repair” loops are stressful. We check disk health, drivers, recent updates and conflicting software to stabilise your system without wiping your files.
GC Tech tip: If a brand-new update caused the issue, try a restart into Safe Mode and roll back the last driver/update before doing anything drastic.
SSD & RAM upgrades (the biggest speed boost)
Old hard drives are the #1 cause of “it takes ages.” Swapping to an SSD can make a 5-year-old computer feel new. We clone your data where possible, fit the drive, and test everything. If your model allows it, we’ll also add RAM for smoother multitasking.
GC Tech tip: If your PC still has a “HDD” in the specs, upgrading to SSD is usually the best value improvement you can buy.
Virus, pop-ups & adware clean-up
Random pop-ups, redirects or “call this number” messages? We remove adware, check browser extensions, reset settings and make sure your security tools are actually working.
GC Tech tip: Don’t call numbers shown in pop-ups. Close the browser, reopen, and remove any unknown extensions (looks like a puzzle piece in the browser menu in the top right of your screen.
Data transfer & basic recovery
Moving to a new computer? We migrate documents, photos, browser favourites and email, then reconnect printers and cloud storage. If files have gone missing, we’ll attempt a basic recovery and, if it’s serious (dead drive), recommend a trusted lab.
GC Tech tip: Before moving, sign into your cloud (OneDrive/Google Drive/iCloud) and let it fully sync, this can save a lot of time.
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & peripherals
We sort flaky Wi-Fi on your PC, reconnect Bluetooth keyboards/mice and fix monitors that won’t detect or look blurry.
GC Tech tip: For fuzzy external monitors, set the display to its native resolution and check the cable (HDMI/DisplayPort) is inserted properly.
Backups that actually work
We turn on File History (Windows) or Time Machine (Mac) or set up cloud sync—and then prove it by restoring a test file so you know you’re covered.
GC Tech tip: After enabling backup, restore one photo to a new folder. Seeing it come back is real peace of mind.
Make a slow computer feel fast again
Most sluggish PCs come down to storage, updates and too many apps starting in the background. We clear the clutter, run system updates, trim startup items and check for basic security issues.
GC Tech tip: Aim for 20% free space on your main drive. On Windows, open Task Manager → Startup and turn off non-essentials (leave antivirus). On Mac, remove unused Login Items.
